HIGH HOPES: Pep Guardiola warns his Man City defenders that beating United will be a tall order

PEP GUARDIOLA has warned his Manchester City players what they must get right against neighbours United.

City just squeezed past struggling West Ham to emerge with a 2-1 victory.

But next Sunday City, although still unbeaten and eight points clear of second-placed United, must be on their guard.

Guardiola thanked Nicolas Otamendi and match-winner David Silva for the goals that sank the brave Hammers.

But he warned: “We spoke a lot about defending set-pieces but they [West Ham] are taller.

“It will happen again next week against United so we have to try and concede fewer set-pieces.”

West Ham, like Manchester United, had some very tall players on parade

United’s Nemanja Matic, for instance, tops 6ft 4ins

Guardiola’s team have now won 14 of their 15 Premier League games in a rip-roaring start to the season.

But it’s not all clear sailing… as the West Ham match proved.

“We started really well but we lost our patience,” he said.

“We didn’t have any rhythm because Adrian [the West Ham keeper] was taking 30 seconds every time.

Guardiola was delighted with the victory

“It was similar to the last few games, in the second half I thought we would score. It was massive.

“They played 10 players inside the box, it was almost impossible. It’s a big victory. It showed what we are.
