REAL MADRID boss Zinedine Zidane was unhappy with a FOUR MINUTE delay caused by the VAR system in their Club World Cup semi-final against Al-Jazira.
With the score at 0-0 Casemiro thought he’d scored with a header, only for the ‘goal’ to be eventually disallowed.
Amid much confusion, Karim Benzema was deemed to have been in an ‘active’ offside position.
And despite his side coming from behind to seal a place in the final, Zidane made his feelings on the technology clear.
“We had to wait three or four minutes to get a decision and it wasn’t pleasant,” said Zidane after the game.
“You have to make sure some good comes from all of this and that we try to improve it.
“I guess the offside was why it was disallowed. It seemed odd.”
Real went a goal down Al-Jazira before rallying through Ronaldo’s equaliser and Gareth Bale’s late winner.
“I have very few explanations,” the Frenchman confessed post-match.
“We deserved the victory, to go to the final, and that’s what I’m left with.
“The first-half was very strange because it was very odd how we didn’t score.
“But we had patience and we knew we were going to have chances.
“We have qualified in a way that was deserved. We had to have peace of mind and we won after a bit of struggle, but we won.”
Zidane can claim credit for deploying Gareth Bale from the bench, the Welshman’s late goal setting Real up for a final with Gremio.
“I watched their semi-final,” he added. “I don’t know the Brazilian league that well.
“They’re a good team and we have to raise our level of play.
“It will be a tough game because there is no such thing as an easy match, as we have seen against Al-Jazira. Now, we have to rest.”
Los Blancos take on the Brazilians on Saturday (5.00pm) in Abu Dhabi.
