Brendan Rodgers would be the perfect replacement for Unai Emery at Arsenal, according to Gunners legend Perry Groves.

The Gunners are looking for a new manager after the north London side opted to part company with Emery last week.

Arsenal appointed the Spanish head coach as Arsene Wenger’s replacement in May 2018 following a stint in charge of Paris Saint-Germain.

Unsurprisingly, Rodgers has been touted as a potential Arsenal manager following his successful spell in charge of Leicester City.

The Northern Irishman has transformed the Foxes into title contenders and top-four challengers this season.

Leicester have a big cushion over fifth-placed Wolves in the race to secure their return to the Champions League.

Former Arsenal defender Groves believes Rodgers is the ideal candidate to become the next Gunners boss.

“They need to go with experience,” Groves told talkSPORT.

“They need someone with Premier League experience with a clear vision and a clear direction.

“There are three candidates, for me.

“Brendan Rodgers – you would go all out to get him no matter how much he cost, if you could.

“Would he want to leave Leicester? We’re a bigger a club… of course he would want to leave Leicester!

“Leicester are a very well-run club, but they’re not one of the big six clubs, and I think Rodgers wants something to prove with one of the big clubs.

“And if he’d be backed by the board as Emery was in the summer… he’d he perfect, because we’re in disarray.

“The others are Nuno Espirito Santo or Mauricio Pochettino.

“The players had completely lost faith in Emery and his tactics, when you watch us defend it’s like trying to herd cats, and at least with Nuno Arsenal would have an identity, he has a philosophy of playing.

“And why wouldn’t you try to get Pochettino? Just to wind that lot up, that would be funny.”

Rodgers was previously in charge of Liverpool FC for three-and-a-half seasons.

He became the third Reds manager to lead Liverpool FC to a second-placed finish in the Premier League in 2013-14.

Rodgers won three successive Scottish Premier League titles at Celtic before his return to the Premier League.

Arsenal finished in fifth spot in Emery’s first full season in charge of the north London side.

The Gunners lost 4-1 to Chelsea FC in the Europa League final last term.
