Dietmar Hamann feels that Bayern Munich are the favourites to progress to the quarter-finals of the Champions League at the expense of Liverpool FC next week.
The Reds are preparing to travel to Munich to take on the Bundesliga side after a frustrating goalless draw in the first leg of the clash last month.
Liverpool FC are aiming to go one step further in the competition this term after having lost the final to Real Madrid last May.
The Merseyside outfit have endured a stuttering run of form over the last few weeks to leave them second in the Premier League table behind Manchester City.
And former Liverpool FC midfielder Hamann feels that Bayern have the slight edge over the Reds heading into the return leg in Germany next week.
Speaking in an interview quoted by Metro, Hamann said: “They will feel they are in a decent position after the 0-0 draw at home and with Virgil van Dijk returning – but I still prefer Bayern.
“The potential loss to injury of Kingsley Coman is a blow for the German side but they are in superb form, unrecognisable from the first couple of months of the season.
“Their confidence will contrast with the mood at Liverpool and I’ll take Bayern in another tight, low-scoring encounter.
“Liverpool are definitely running into Bayern at the wrong time with a new belief pulsing through the Bavarian ranks.”
Liverpool FC will first focus on Premier League affairs and their home clash against Burnley at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
The Reds – who finished fourth last term – are looking to overtake Manchester City at the top of the table before the season is out as they search for their first trophy under Jurgen Klopp.
