Olympiakos were clear outsiders for qualification when this Champions League group was drawn, and to be honest it’s played out almost exactly as you would expect for them. They have struggled against the talented Barcelona, Juventus, and Sporting Lisbon and find themselves out of the running for any sort of qualification coming into this final game.
Their sole point of the campaign came in surprising fashion as they managed to hold Barcelona to a goalless draw at home, but apart from that they have lost all four of their matches. In fairness to them they have put up a good fight though, only losing 2-0 in Turin and finding the net away to Barcelona and in both matches against Sporting Lisbon.
Unfortunately they haven’t been so efficient at the other end of the pitch, conceding 11 goals in their five games so far. This poor defensive record is evident domestically as well, with Olympiakos failing to keep a clean sheet in any of their last six competitive matches.
Juventus were always expected to be in the top two after their excellent Champions League campaign last season, but what they weren’t expecting was to be still fighting for their qualification spot in the final game. Admittedly, it is incredibly unlikely that they will drop down to 3rd, and would require Sporting Lisbon to beat Barcelona at the Camp Nou, but they can’t afford to take any chances in this match.
The visitors beat Napoli 1-0 away from home on Friday, but have only won three of their last six in all competitions. Defensively they haven’t been anywhere near up to their usual standards this season, and that’s especially true on their travels. Away from home they have conceded in all but two of their competitive matches this season, shipping a total of 14 goals in nine games.
Considering Olympiakos have only failed to find the net in two of their Champions League games so far we’re expecting them to get on the scoresheet against their illustrious opponents. However, Juventus have bagged 21 goals themselves in their nine away days, so backing Both Teams to Score looks a great choice along with a tight 2-1 correct score predictions.
