It has been nearly a two-month wait but this all-top-flight last-eight contest is here. Club historian Rick Glanvill and club statistician Paul Dutton have the quarter-final lowdown…
So, only two matchdays till Christmas, and no prizes for guessing what we want as a present. Although three years have passed since Chelsea last reached this stage of the competition, this is the club’s 21st League Cup quarter-final. London’s first winners of the title, and most recent, the Blues have progressed in 12 of the 20 to date.
Bournemouth have continued their recent upward mobility by reaching the last eight for the second time in four seasons, but have never reached the next stage. Their quarter-final conquerors in 2015, Liverpool, were beaten in the next round by Chelsea, the eventual winners.
Of the other clubs playing yesterday evening and tonight, Arsenal and Manchester United have both reached 14 semi-finals up to now, Manchester City and West Ham 9, Leicester 5 and Bristol City twice.
